Dear Jacob,
I feel board without you. We got a canoe for Happytat. When we bring the tent, we can maybe even ask if cousin 1 and cousin 2 want to sleep in our tent. At film camp, I was even pretending to eat a clay omelet! Hope your having fun. I miss you.
Love, Belac.

Hey Jacob - hope you had a great canoe trip. Looking forward to hearing about your stories. Where did you go? Did you visit a remote part of Parc de Mont Tremblant? How many portages did you have? I am looking forward to knowing about what friends you're making and what you're learning about the people at the camp. Are you learning how to solo canoe?
This is the week-end of the NYC Triathlon and my brain is already hurting from keeping track of all the logistics. On Saturday I have a mandatory briefing (where they tell us about the rules and what to do for safety, like not tailgate other bikers or trample on people in the water), and then I have to get all the way across town to check my bike into the "transition" area before it closes at 9pm on Saturday. Then the next morning (Sunday, the day of the race), the transition areas open at 4am and close at 5:15am so that we have enough time to walk all the way up to 99th street at Riverside park (very close to where we walked w/ pops & granny when they were last in NYC, by the water) where the swim starts in waves starting at 6am.
I'm looking forward to Happytat, which for me starts on the night of 21 August (a day after you get to Happytat from Camp). I will drive there in a separate car and take the last week of the month off. Hopefully by then you'll show me some cool canoe tricks (or whatever you're learning at camp).
So have fun and remember to be nice & considerate to everyone. And also WEAR THOSE REC SPECS as soon as you get them, all the time. They will protect your eyes from nearly any accident in case one happens. Don't worry, I'll wear mine all the time in Happytat to prove how cool they are.
love, Dad

Dear Jacob,
Today I saw dad's cuz and handed over your rec specs. She will bring them to Granny when she gets home, and Granny will bring them up on Visitor’s day. Can you believe that after waiting in line forever and figuring out how to pack the rec specs, FedEx rang the whole transaction up and wanted to charge me one hundred dollars to send the glasses up to camp? They said it would take at least 6 days, with no guarantee what hang ups would happen at the border! So I just handed them over to cuz, this morning. I hope you like them! They will probably come in handy for a rough game of gaga. I think they look so cool! You’ll let me know what you think of them.
I think Bailey notices you are gone. He’s been following me around like crazy and behaving in a mopey way! This week end we are going into NYC and spending the night on Saturday because of dad’s triathlon. We will put Bailey in the dog hotel, where he’ll be with his buddy Theo the Cocker Spaniel. I think it will be good for him! Belac suggested that we have some huge treat waiting for him when he gets back so he remembers where home is and that it's the best place of all.
I have literally hundreds of tomatos growing in my garden. I don’t know how we are going to eat all of them! Nathan and Caroline came and picked all of the red ones, today, and I insisted that they take them all home. We have hundreds more that will need to be eaten! Everything is growing like crazy and I'm very happy, but we won't be able to eat everything fast enough. I will have to ask the neighbors to come by and eat everything during the last 2 weeks of August.
By the way, we have a HUGE hornet's nest growing in the front. Remember how I was stung in early summer? Well, it wasn't a bee but a hornet. Wait til you see the nest, it's enormous!! Still, we are able to be on the patio without a problem, we just can't disturb the nest!
Hope you had a great time on the canoe trip. I can't wait to hear about it. Like if you drank the lake water, what you did when you needed to poop (dad says there's bum wad??) and what you ate the whole time?? The next weeks of camp are going to seem luxurious and be such a cinch for you after all that!
Hope you are having a ton of fun!
Love, Mom
