autism re-defined

I really cannot describe Belac's situation better than Lori Warner, Director of the Hope Center at Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan. She understands not only the very real struggle of high-functioning autistics but also their potential to contribute to society with the right kind of guidance and education.

You can read her comments here.

By the way, I must say that ABC news does a consistently amazing job covering autism. The news is never sensational and always real. Every interview, expose, and bit of writing about autism I have been exposed to at ABC over the years has been thoughtful, interesting, and important to me as a mother.

And the doctor being interviewed by Robin at the bottom restates exactly what my pediatrician always tells me. Treat the symptoms, don't worry about the diagnosis. Nice in theory. As long as our broken educational system can treat the symptoms, I don't care what they call Belac. But you know. I'm just not sure that the system is equipped to deal with these kinds of nuances.
